Dear Marcia,
I’m a Danish journalist writing for the paper Kristeligt Dagblad.
These days, we’re massively occupied with – as you might have guessed – the Danish Queen Magrethe’s abdication after 52 years on the throne.
Unlike the Netherlands, it is as you probably know a very unusual situation for the Danish royal family. The last time a monarch “retired” voluntarily was almost 900 years ago. Recently, some royal specialists have stated that the abdication is potentially dangerous for the monarchy as an institution as it makes it less “magical” and makes the royal family more like “everyone else”. They add that wearing the crown is a duty, not a job.
In the Netherlands, the situation seems to be quite different. I’d love to do an interview with you on that perspective: How does it – in your view – affect the royal Dutch institution that four out of your past six monarchs abdicated? Are there any experiences that might be useful in a Danish context?
Let me know if you would find it interesting. I certainly would, and I’m sure that the readers would as well. Feel free to call me on +4525100262. Otherwise, write me and we’ll figure something out.
Best wishes,
Tobias Bundolo Nørgaard
